Engage2Stage Covid-19 Update 1

Date: 17/03/2020

Hello Everyone,

It is with regret that we have to announce that the next two sessions at the Met, Bury, have had to be cancelled and it is highly likely that ALL sessions throughout April including those scheduled at the Old Bank, Manchester will also not be going ahead. This is due to current government advice regarding any non-essential travel as well as the closure of venues over the forthcoming weeks. We do hope to reconvene in May but this is provisional and will depend on advice given nearer the time.

It is in uncertain times like these that we have to have each others backs and look out for one another, it is with this in mind that we are now looking into utilising online video calling to stay connected with group members. More details about this are due in the following update.

I wish this was better news but the health and well being of everyone has to be the overarching priority at this time.

Keep safe and continue to follow government and NHS advice.

Engage2Stage had members and supporters of Bury Society for Blind and Partially sighted people guessing Who done it, as they presented their Murder Mystery on Friday 24th January. The event which was hosted by the society as a fundraiser also featured Bury's very own Newukuleles.

The event which took place on 24th January at St Bernadette's social club, Whitefield, was a great success and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who were in attendance as well as the volunteers who contributed in making the evening a night to remember.

Murder Mystery at the Met: Engage2Stage and RNIB connect NW co-host Murder Mystery and Music Evening.

Date: 18/12/2019

Engage2Stage and RNIB Connect NW presented an evening of Murder, Mystery and Music at the Met, Bury on 16th December 2019. The event featured the very first presentation of the Murder Mystery that Engage2Stage have been working on over the last few months. The evening included a guided touch tour, integrated audio description and evidence packs that were provided in accessible formats including large print and Braille. A summary of the evidence was also provided during the interval so that the audience had plenty of opportunities to access the information they needed to work out who done it. The event also featured music acts including Paul Quigley, Jamie Maclaren and band Ash Mountain just to name a few.

Over the last few months Engage2Stage have been working on their Murder Mystery set in a restaurant called Mcmurdo Manor. Throughout the project our members have had the opportunity to work on their performance skills with the guidance of our lead facilitator Elizabeth Wainwright.  Many of our workshop sessions have focused on character development to reflect the very individual and distinct characters that are often found in murder mysteries, This project also marked the very first time many of our group would have worked with a piece of script. Sessions also focused on physicality as well as speech and vocal delivery. Above all the sessions instilled a heightened self confidence and self belief that really shone the most during the performance evening.

This project was delivered with support from Forever Manchester and Bury Pitch Fund.

Engage2Stage perform in tribute to Victoria Wood at Bury Art Museum

Date: 01/09/2019

On Saturday 31st August 2019 Engage2Stage attended Bury Art Museum in support of their Victoria Wood exhibition celebrating the life and works of the late comedy legend. After each of the exhibition tours, spectators were treated to our interpretation of the infamous Ballad of Barry and Freda (let's do it). It has been a great privilege and honour to be working on pieces written and inspired by the As Seen on TV legend.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our hosts Bury Art Museum for inviting us to perform, the many visitors and supporters who came along to watch as well as those who kindly donated to Engage2Stage. We hope we did the work of Victoria Wood justice and that everyone enjoyed themselves. We had a total of £86 in donations which will all go towards our running costs such as venue hire and workshop facilitation.

As seen at the Met: Engage2Stage take part in Met theatre event inspired by Victoria Wood.

Date: 13/07/2019

On Saturday 13th July, Engage2Stage along with other participatory groups based at the Met, including, Aiming High, Bury YT and Met Express, shared the stage in an event inspired by the works of Victoria Wood. The event is one of a number of events across Bury that celebrate the late comedy legend including the unveiling of a statue in the town centre and an exhibition at Bury Art Museum.

The event featured works created by the groups that were inspired by the work of Victoria Wood, from her stand up routines, her well known piano numbers to her television shows such as As seen on TV and Dinnerladies. Engage2Stage was the final act taking to the stage to perform their interpretation of the well know Ballad of Barry and Freda (Let's Do it).

All of the groups put on a brilliant show and it was great sharing the stage with you all. Thank you to the Met for organising a spectacular event and to everyone who came along to watch and support us all. Please watch the videos (below) produced by the Met of interviews with group leaders and members post-show.
